Fling Into Spring With Us!
We love when previous owners of this house tell us they also enjoyed hosting large gatherings here! This property lends itself well to entertaining outdoors in a country setting, not far from the city.
This spring we had two gatherings planned and also wanted to expand our cut flower garden and add a pergola. Working under a tight deadline of May 26th, we got to work as soon as the ground could be worked! Here's how Spring here sprung!
We always knew we would eventually have to replace the original columns on our 1905 front porch because even with multiple years of patching and painting, the bases were rotten. Fortunately, centurypost.com in Hillsburgh, Ontario was able to beautifully reproduce the wood columns for us and we installed them in spring 2023. We envisioned using those original posts for a pergola of some sort and held onto them.
Over the winter we planned the new cut flower garden and included a pergola with the refurbished old posts as a focal point.
In early April, we got to work and marked out the plan and built the pergola.
By the end of April, the garden beds were prepped and ready for planting! We found a wire spool top for one of our wine barrels and were happy to have another spot to have a glass of wine!
In the meantime, we had our cut flower seedlings growing under lights in the house ready for the weather to break! The most rewarding cut flower to start early indoors, in my opinion, are Snapdragons! This tiny speck of a seed becomes this huge, prolific, gorgeous flower!
Now we would focus on the events! Both of the outdoor gatherings were coincidentally going to be Tuscany themed! The first was a dinner for an awesome Niagara driving event for a group of car enthusiasts traveling to Italy together this summer! The following weekend, was a wonderful celebration for an upcoming summer wedding in Tuscany! Great people, great food and even a Limoncello and dessert bar, a 1968 Fiat Cinquecento photo op, and an Aperol Spritz welcome bar!
At this moment, we are looking forward to the summer and all the wonderful things that will bloom this year! Perhaps a few more outdoor events?! For now, Arrivaderci!
